Along the way, they both learn morality is not always black and white, and sometimes chaos is the only way to finding the truth; perception is only half of reality.

Subvert explores what happens when individuals must make decisions outside of what their society permits. As Sam guides Christina through interactions with other scared individuals, groups, and the natural world, their commitment to obedience weakens, only to be replaced by a commitment to direct action. While their relationship begins with the search for Christina's mother, their journey matures into a larger search for truth; not only exploring what it is but how it emerges from one’s decisions.
